Wipro :
HOW RS.10, 000 BECAME RS.584 CRORES

Suppose you invested Rs.10,000 in its shares in 1980. You would have got 100 shares @ Rs. 100 each. Now shares of Wipro have gone through multiple splits & bonuses. So we adjust them as and when splits & bonuses happened.

1980 – Bought 100 shares @ Rs 100
1981 – 1:1 Bonus = 200 shares
1985 – 1:1 Bonus = 400 shares
1986 – Stock Split from Rs. 100 to Rs.10 face value = 4000 shares
1987 – 1:1 Bonus = 8000 shares
1989 – 1:1 Bonus = 16,000 shares
1992 – 1:1 Bonus = 32,000 shares
1995 – 1:1 Bonus = 64,000 shares
1997 – 2:1 Bonus = 1, 92,000 shares
1999 – Stock Split to Rs. 2 face value =9, 60,000 shares
2004 – 2:1 Bonus =28, 80,000 shares
2005 – 1:1 Bonus =57, 60,000 shares
2010 – 2:3 Bonus =86, 40,000 shares
Value of one Wipro share was around Rs.677 (last high made in March 2015).

So as March 2015, your INVESTMENT of Rs 10k is worth a surprising Rs.584 crores!!

And this is not all, if you know about benefits of dividends; you would realize that Wipro has been a regular dividend payer. Last financial year 2014-2015 it paid Rs 5+5=10 per share as dividend. So you would have earned Rs.8, 64, 00,000 (Rs 8.64 Crores) last year alone as dividend incomes. Just imagine how much you could have made from dividends alone in last 35 years.

Symphony :
HOW RS.10, 000 BECAME RS. 1.15 CRORES

Suppose you invested Rs 10,000 in its shares in 1999. You would have got 705 shares @ Rs. 14 each. Now here again adjust them as and when splits & bonuses happened.

1999– Bought 705 shares of Symphony at Rs. 14 (invested Rs.10, 000)

2011– SPLIT: 5:1: 3525 SHARES
Value of one Symphony’s share was around Rs.3270 (last high made in March 2015).
So as April 2015, your investment of Rs 10k is worth 1.15 crores!! (3270*3525)

And again Symphony has also paid regular dividends. Last financial year only 2014-2015 it paid Rs 11+4=15 per share as dividend. So you would have earned Rs.53000 last year alone as dividend incomes. Just imagine how much you could have made from dividends alone in last 16 years.

Infosys :
HOW RS.10, 000 BECAME RS. 46 LAKHS

splits & bonuses happened.
1993– Bought 23 shares of Infy at Rs. 430 (invested Rs.10, 000)
1994– BONUS: 1:1=46
1997– BONUS: 1:1= 92
1999– BONUS: 1:1= 184
1999– SPLIT: 2:1= 368
2004– BONUS: 3:1= 490
2006– BONUS: 1:1= 980
2014– BONUS: 1:1= 1960
2015– BONUS: 1:1= 3920
Value of one Infy’s share was around Rs.1167 (last high made in Feb 2015).

So as Feb 2015, your investment of Rs 10k is worth 46 lacs (1167*3920)

And Infy is giant dividend payer in IT industry. Last financial year only 2014-2015 it paid Rs. 30 per share as dividend. So you would have earned Rs. 1.18 lacs last year alone as dividend incomes. Just imagine how much you could have made from dividends alone in last 22 years. We could have reinvested it again in the shares of Infy which would have multiplied the returns and just imagine where the figure could go on reinvestment.

Eicher Motors :
HOW RS.10, 000 BECAME RS.32.5 LACS

Suppose you invested Rs 10,000 in its shares in 2002. You would have got 150 shares @ Rs 67 each. Now shares of Eicher Motors have not gone through any bonus or split so no need for any adjustments in number of shares.

2002: 10000/67=150 shares
Now: 2015: 21620*150= 32, 43,000 (last high touched in July 2015)
Dividend per share in different years :

50 (2015) +30 (2014) +20 (2013) +16 (2012) +11 (2011) +7 (2010) +5 (2009) +5 (2008) + 29 (2007) +4 (2006) +4 (2005) +3.5 (2004) +3.5 (2003) +2.5 (2002) +2 (2001) = 192.5*370= 71,225

We just added dividends of all years and multiplied by total shares as there are no changes in number of shares.

We have given the example of just 4 stories; there are many more but it’s not possible to explain all here. Now it must be clear that how even a single long term profitable investment can change your fortune and where it could take your overall portfolio’s returns.
